  17. "DID you ever see a more wonderful day?"

  19. The four Outdoor Girls, in Mollie Billette's touring car and with
  20. Mollie herself  at the wheel, were at the present moment rushing
  21. wildly over a dusty country  road at the rate of thirty miles an hour.

  23. Grace Ford was sitting in front with Mollie, while Betty Nelson
  24. and Amy  Blackford "sprawled," to use Mollie's sarcastic and
  25. slightly exaggerated  description, "all over the tonneau."

  27. "You look as if you had never done a real day's work in your life,"
  28. said Mollie,  with a disapproving glance over her shoulder at the
  29. girls in the tonneau.

  31. "We never have," returned quiet Amy, with a grin.

  33. "And we are proud of it," added Betty, as she defiantly settled her
  34. feet still  more comfortably on the foot rail. "Why should we be
  35. energetic when it is so  much easier to be lazy?"

  37. "There the proper spirit speaks," applauded Grace Ford from the
  38. front. "I think  I shall have to change places with you, Betty. It's far
  39. too exciting up here  with Mollie. She insists upon staging near
  40. collisions every few feet--thus  keeping me awake!"
